Mark Anthony was named after Mexican singer Marco Antonio Muniz and at first did not like salsa music, but realized he was good at it and the rest is history.

     Anthony grew up in East Harlem, also known as Spanish Harlem and El Barrio, and is the youngest of eight surviving children. He was raised Roman Catholic.

     The band's hits include "Walk Like an Egyptian", Billboard magazine's number-one single of 1987, as well as "Manic Monday", "Hazy Shade of Winter", and their 1989 number-one single "Eternal Flame".
